A Note from the DCE: Working and Resting in Jesus

At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children;  yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.  All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.  Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”  - Matthew 11:25-30

This Gospel reading for today is a fitting section of Scripture for the closing of VBS and the beginning of our Sr. Youth Servant Event. It is also a good time to reflect on a couple of great ministry events that happen here and in a place we have been sent to serve.

Our great team of VBS volunteers of all ages, headed up by our wonderful director Holly Feldman, deserve a good rest.  It was a busy and fruitful week.   It started at opening gathering time where children (some riding here by the help of our volunteer drivers) met their leaders and other children in their group.  They were treated to great songs, presentations and skits about God’s love and care for them.  Then they went on to get some well-planned and yummy snacks as they got to know their group and had some good discussion.  The three stations they visited next were crafts-games-Bible story time.  In each place their activity and attention was directed toward God’s Word and learning that:  God made you; God‘s love for you; God always with you; God unfailing; and God made you for a reason.

Our Sr. Youth take up the yoke and burden of serving in Jesus’ Name.  They will be doing projects for people needing minor home repair, wheel chair ramps, and other projects that cost or health prevents them from completing.  While serving with their hands, youth also share their hearts of faith with needy people and each other.  The days begin with hard work and end with Bible study, singing, fellowship and fun.

Please join me in praying for the work of Gospel through our efforts at VBS and the Servant Event.  Thanks be to God Who is at work and receives all the praise!  Amen.
